What unlocking does on this tool
Password check first
pdf.js attempts to open the PDF with the password you enter. A wrong password stops here — this is not a brute-force cracker.
Rebuild without encryption
After a successful open, pages are copied into a new PDF so the download no longer asks for a password.
Permission flags cleared
Owner-side limits (print / copy / modify / annotate) are not carried into the new file — you get a normal unrestricted PDF.
Owner-only files
Some PDFs open without a user password but still carry restrictions. Try Unlock with an empty password field; if the reader can open it, we can rebuild a clean copy.

Do I need to know the password to unlock?
Yes for open-password PDFs. Enter the password that already opens the file. This tool does not crack unknown passwords.
What gets removed when I unlock?
The open-password prompt and typical permission flags (print / copy / modify / annotate) are cleared in the new download.
Can I unlock a PDF that only has restrictions, no open password?
Often yes — leave the password field empty and click Unlock. If your browser can open the file freely, we can rebuild an unrestricted copy.
Is Unlock the same as Protect?
No. Protect adds passwords and limits. Unlock removes them when you are allowed to open the file.
Will this recover a password I forgot?
No. If you do not know the open password, unlocking cannot proceed.
How large can the PDF be for unlocking?
Up to 25 MB.
Are my files uploaded when I unlock a PDF?
No. Verification and rebuild run in your browser.
